Following a root canalThe portion of the pulp cavity inside the root of a tooth; the chamber within the root of the tooth that contains the pulp., can you eat as normal?
Root canal treatment can be one of the most nerve-wracking procedures for patients experiencing dental problems. Once the treatment has been completed, commonly patients can continue to suffer from some discomfort and indeed worry about whether they will be able to eat in the aftermath. The good news is that you will be able to eat after root canal surgery however you’ll need to wait a few hours for the anaesthetic and numbness to wear off before subjecting your sensitive teeth to any food or drink.
Most importantly, you need to follow your dentist’s advice and only eat certain things after having root canal surgery.
Soft foods are the best choice for eating after the treatment, as they avoid irritating the sensitive area and causing any more harm to the inflamed gums and mouth.
Additionally, we also recommend avoiding certain foods that could damage the root canal or cause early problems. This includes hard foods such as:
• Candy
• Apples
• Ice
• Sticky foods like gum or toffee
• Hot or cold drinks or meals e.g. coffee. These can trigger sensitivity around the tooth and cause more problems and pain.
