Do veneers stain?

With veneers, do they stain easily?

Veneers have been increasing in popularity over the last few years. The treatment involves a thin coating of porcelain or resin being used to cover a tooth that may have been stained or damaged to restore a bright white appearance. Their popularity stems from their ability to create a new attractive smile whilst being painless and easy to manage.

However, there are a few key things to consider when having veneers and one of which is that some veneers can still appear to stain in certain circumstances.

Primarily, you shouldn’t see any staining with your veneers, especially when they are made of porcelain as the material is more resistant to staining. However, there is a small chance staining could occur at the point where the veneers meet the tooth and this could create the appearance of staining on your teeth.

Additionally, your veneers cannot be whitened further and we always recommend against attempting to use home teeth whitening kits on existing veneers as this can potentially cause damage, which can eventually lead to staining.

In most instances, veneers are stain free and will remain so with proper care and maintenance. Veneers offer aesthetically pleasing results with little discomfort or hassle, but if you do have any questions or worries about veneers, feel free to speak to your dentist to discuss further.
