Is teeth whitening safe?

Is there anything you should be worried about before getting teeth whitening?

When a patient’s teeth become yellow or discolour this can cause a great deal of anxiety to set in or lead to them to worry about their appearance. Yellow teeth often appear as we age, as the enamelHard calcified tissue covering dentin of the crown of tooth. begins to discolour, however, the process can be exasperated by a poor diet which is high in sugar or food and drinks that contain tannins. These drinks such as coffee or wine can lead to your teeth becoming stained.

Fortunately, there are methods of rectifying this issue, and teeth whitening is one of them. However, you need to be careful about how you whiten your teeth. For example, visiting a dental professional to have your teeth whitened is very safe and will provide you with longer lasting and very satisfactory results. Having your teeth whitened by someone who is not a dental professional is also not recommended. Some beauty salons offer teeth whitening, but you should avoid making bookings here as they will not have the high standard of products and equipment that will be found in dentists.

Conversely, buying a tooth whitening set from your local shop, pharmacy or online may not give you the results you crave and could potentially cause damage to the enamel on your teeth. Additionally, some home whitening kits often lack the proper amount of whitening product to be an effective purchase.

If you have any further questions, please reach out to your dentist regarding the matter or book a consultation to discuss teeth whitening.
