For older patients, there are certain criteria you must meet. Smokers are advised against having dental implants, as the chemicals in cigarettes cause the healing process to slow down, meaning you gums may reject the implants or be unable to heal effectively.

Furthermore, you need to have enough jawbone in order for the fusion to take place successfully. If you lack this, then your dentist may advise you to have dentures instead. Finally, those with gum disease will need to have this treated first, as the inflamed gums may make the treatment very painful and also prolong the time it takes to heal.
