Stain Removal

Bringing back the smile you love.

Over time it is normal for stains to appear on our teeth. Food and drink such as tea, coffee, red wine and spicy foods leave their mark. Smoking also leads to staining or yellowing of our teeth. Many of our patients no longer see the smile they remember in the mirror, even with regular brushing and flossing.

Our Practices offer teeth stain removal and teeth whitening for our patients. This can be done at the Practice by one of our Hygienists, or you can take home a kit to do this in the comfort of your own home.

These treatments do not harm the teeth, and will gradually whiten them to give you a brighter colour than before. Depending on the treatment you choose, you will see your teeth become up to 7 shades whiter.

Smiling member of staff at dental practice

I have finally found a dentist I can trust! Really pleased after my recent appointment here. The dentist was lovely, took time to talk about what I wanted and really seemed to care. He wasn’t pushy about any treatment I didn’t want at all. I would definitely recommend a visit to this dentist.

Frequently asked questions

Is stain removal safe?
Yes, all our treatments are safe and approved. Your Dentist or Hygienist will talk you through the process for stain removal, make you comfortable and answer any questions you might have.

If you are using a home whitening kit, you will be given full instructions and be able to ask any questions before you start using it. We also recommend you come back for another appointment at the end of your home treatment so we can check that everything has gone well for you.
How long until I can see results from stain removal treatment?
With any tooth whitening that takes places at our Practices, you will see the effects straight away. For home whitening treatment, you will see the effects over time as you use the treatment.

It is normal to lose a shade of white once your treatment has ended. This is your teeth rehydrating after the treatment and the whiteness you’ve gained will settle after that.
How long does stain removal treatment take?
At the Dentist a stain removal treatment will take around 1.5 hours. At home you will use the kit to whiten your teeth a few hours at a time over the course of a few weeks.
Can I have stains removed if I have braces?
You can have tooth whitening while wearing braces. However, it will usually give your teeth a two-tone effect when the braces are removed. For these reasons we recommend having any whitening treatment done once your braces have been removed.
What are the alternatives to stain removal?
Stain removal will only work on natural and healthy teeth. For teeth which have been filled or replaced a veneer might be the best way to remove stains. Your Dentist will be able to talk to you about this and recommend the best course of treatment for your teeth.
How do you remove stains from teeth?

Many items in our diets will result in staining on our teeth, e.g. coffee, red wine, nicotine and many food stuffs.  Regular tooth brushing can help to reduce this. The use of an electric tooth brush can have a significant impact on stain reduction. For those very stubborn stains and a quicker impact, a visit with the dental hygienist will leave your teeth stain free.

The cost of a visit to your dental hygienist varies slightly between our practices, but please feel free to contact your local Practice who will be happy to provide you with more information.
