Brushing your teeth; how many times a day?

Brushing your teeth is a vital part of any dental hygiene routine and is an absolute necessity if you want to avoid fillings or tooth loss. However, people often wonder how rigorously they should brush their teeth and how often they need to brush them. Thankfully, brushing should not take too much time out of your day.

We advise that you brush your teeth at least twice a day; in the morning and at one other time. You must brush your teeth in the morning, as not only will you clean any bacteria that may have accumulated during the night, but you will often find that your teeth feel unusual first thing in the morning, and brushing removes this discomfort. We suggest brushing your teeth for a second time at night before bed, to remove any food or bacteria that may have latched onto the teeth during the day. You should brush your teeth for at least two minutes during each session and use a toothpaste recommended by dentists with fluoride.

Whilst brushing your teeth is imperative to a good oral hygiene routine, you should also consider cleaning between your teeth as well. Activity such as flossing allows you to reach bacteria and food stuck between your teeth, that the toothbrush may be unable to clean. Furthermore, visit your dentist regularly so that they can check on your dental health and ensure that you are brushing your teeth correctly and they can answer any questions you may have regarding toothbrushes and toothpaste.
